New Catalyst drivers from ATI, the holy grail of…not workingness…

Hello

a few days ago i heard about this new drivers from ATI, those totally rewritten catalyst which promise wonders! First of all they should work with Compiz, so even the ATI card holder should start to try the new compiz w/o using the free radeon ones..
Well, so i downloaded the drivers from ati, and ran the installer, they worked good and installed perfectly.
I blacklisted my original ubuntu fglrx and rebooted.
ZOING, i was back to X, when i tried to run compiz it didn’t work, and glxgears gave me a poor 200fps..fglrxinfo told me i was using mesa…
Damn! I tried to add DRI, and restarted X…no way, it doesn’t go on X anymore..seems that DRI and those drivers are not good friends..
Then i reverted to the radeon ones, they did work good indeed, glxgears told me around 1500fps, compiz was running fine, but dri was not working still, so when i tried to play enemy territory everything was sluggish..
I tried to force dri on from xorg.conf..again, X not starting..this is definitely a NO WAY…
So i uninstalled everything and downloaded from ATI the older installer, but still newer than the ubuntu one..
It did work and install, but no DRI and poor FPS..
so.
eventually i got tired and uninstalled everything reverting back to the original ubuntu one, and its 3600FPS..
I think my poor ATI9800pro will stay on it for some more time or until ATI decides to release drivers that are not comparable to garbage :D
