Tariq Aziz and the dawn of peace…
I just read the new that Aziz has been discharged from every accuse in the trial in Iraq. I won’t discuss on the innocence or less of Aziz, its clear and certain that as a minister during the Saddam dictatorship he couldn’t not know what was going on.
For sure the tribunal and the judges had their good reasons for discharging him, however I would spend a couple of lines about what can happen now.
Aziz is the only Christian that was in the Saddam government, and, in my opinion, discharging and releasing the only Christian will soon be used from the integralists for their interests.
Soon, the integralist would start accusing the government of Iraq of taking the hat off in front of Christians, if I could see this clearly, the Muslim ppl in Iraq will see it clear as well, and will not lose this great advantage in propaganda which has been offered to them on a silver dish. Now, it doesn’t matter if he is guilty or not, discharging him can and will probably cause severe problems in the short term.
Better they had charged him something minor, then pardoned, or exiled, or just made him disappear under a fake name..this way, they just sharpened the point of integralism propaganda…a big strategic error from the government of Iraq, which will probably give troubles in the following months…
A friend found me some more informations about Aziz, seems he has been extremely wise in looking for international help before and during the war. Probably he was able to negotiate a better agreement with the US than the others from Saddam’s government.
On the light of the informations, I completely agree he was wise, but still think that his dischargment could be used as a political propaganda weapon..We just wait and see what happens…
